Dear Pastors and YFC Presidents,
Hebrews 6:10 states, “For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labor of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.” With this in mind, in 2005 the NYFC Executive Board established the National Youth for Christ Memorial Scholarship.
This scholarship program is designed to honor those who sacrificed and labored for the national body over the years, and have passed on to be with the Lord, by providing college scholarships in their memory to the future leaders of our organization. Although we can never pay these remarkable men and women of God for their works, through this scholarship program the National Youth for Christ will try to honor them and their legacy.
As well, NYFC understand the increasing importance and rising costs of a higher education. Thus, the National Youth for Christ will be looking to award annually at least one $1,000 memorial scholarship to an outstanding youth.
To be eligible to apply for the NYFC Memorial Scholarship one must be a freshman entering a 4-year college/university in Fall 2008; have a minimum 3.0 high school GPA; be accepted and enrolled in a 4-year college/university for Fall 2009; be baptized according to Acts 2:38; and be a member in good standing with a Way of the Cross Church.
Candidates will be evaluated on their high school GPA; final class rank; SAT scores; school and community activities; local and national church involvement; awards and leadership positions; essays and recommendation letters.
Previous winners include Steven Plater (*2003 - Bethel WOTCC), Meghan Holly (*2004 - Refuge WOTCC), Crystal Butler (2005 - Bethel WOTCC), Tyrett Fisher (2006 – Tried WOTCC), Joy Miller (2007 - Gates of Praise WOTCC), and Jessica Scales (2008 - Shiloh WOTCC).
One copy of the application for the 2009 National Youth for Christ Memorial Scholarship will be mailed to the individual churches and it can also be downloaded from our website, www.wotccyfc.org. The application will be located on the scholarships page.
* Scholarship awarded with parent body as Mother Isabell Brooks Ford Memorial Scholarship
